There are several people within Section One that have the desire to become a National Referee Instructor. There is a need for more such instructors, because many of the existing National Instructors are starting to drop out of the program and we need a good pipeline of quality individuals to step up and take on the responsibility for growing the next generation of referees. On January 1st of this year, the Referee Instructor Program was revised to, among other things, provide a different path for how one becomes a National Referee Instructor.
Rather than advancing directly from Advanced Referee Instructor to National Referee Instructor, the National Referee Commission established an interim requirement that the individual must also become a Referee Instructor Evaluator. This is a certification that is extremely similar to that of the Referee Assessor that assesses referees when they seek to upgrade their badge level.
In addition, it is the Referee Instructor Evaluator that now evaluates (assesses) Referee Instructors when they seek to upgrade their instructor certification. As you may recall, prior to January 1st those instructors seeking to upgrade their certification had to be mentored. There were no real standards for who could be a mentor, and there was no clear criteria on which to be judged. The establishment of the Referee Instructor Evaluator addresses both of these issues.
So......it's critical that we build up our corp of Referee Instructor Evaluators for two very important reasons:
First, being a Referee Instructor Evaluator is the way (the path) to becoming a National Referee Instructor.
Second, we need a group of quality individuals to evaluate referee instructors as they seek to upgrade their instructor certifications.
An excellent course for Referee Instructor Evaluators is being offered by the Ken Aston Camps during July 23-24 at Chapman University in Orange, CA near Disneyland. In keeping with its tradition of over 20 years, the staff of the Ken Aston Camps has enhanced the standard curriculum for this course to provide additional quality elements to heighten the enjoyment of the course and to intensify the learning experience.
You can learn more about this exciting course and can register on-line by going to a NEW web site solely dedicated to the Camps. The web site address is KenAstonCamps.org.
I strongly urge you to either consider attending this course yourself, or encourage other qualified individuals within the organization to attend.
As an added bonus, this year the Camps will have two Principal Instructors rather than the usual one. This year, the Principal Instructors will be two FIFA Referees: Sandra Hunt and Kari Seitz.
Please pass this message to those that will benefit the most from it.
Thanks
Gary Whitaker
